Clyde Nurdle Quest Launch

CNQ Coast crop

The Clyde Nurdle Quest

Last weekend I headed West to the isles of Arran and Cumbrae to help with the launch of an exciting new citizen science nurdle project: The Clyde Nurdle Quest.

This is the brainchild of Natalie Welden, a microplastics researcher and post-doc at the Stockholm Environment Institute in York. Together with Natalie, and alongside invaluable support from Arran COAST and FSC Millport, we spent a couple of days training up new intrepid nurdle hunters. They will be conducting several nurdle surveys on a chosen beach over two months, to help us find out more about how pellets move around at sea and whether there are changes in pellet pollution over time.

The Clyde Nurdle Quest has slightly different rules of nurdle hunting compared to our usual nurdle hunts... specific instructions can be downloaded here. Copies of the CNQ data recording card can be downloaded here

If you're based on the west coast and are interested in contributing to the Clyde Nurdle Quest, please send me an e-mail (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and we can fill you in on the details. Alternatively, we always welcome more nurdle hunts in the area to be added to our map in the usual fashion, using our 'share your findings' form.
